flight of the caterpillar

It seems impossible to explain everything that has gone into shaping my artistic sensibilities or my view of the world. I can’t explain exactly how my love of the earth and the environment affects my work, but I can feel it when I have a camera or brush in hand. It is absolutely a part of what I do.

When I compose my image, I take the vantage point of a bird, a dog, or the smallest of insects. A tiny caterpillar has a world filled with light filtered by colorful translucent leaves and petals. A dog crouched low in the uncut grass sees what is immediately in front of him, the background falling quickly out of focus.

I imagine myself physically inside the painting, seeing the world from beneath the dream-like fog of wax and pigment. These paintings are my attempt to share what I see in my minds eye.
